“Hearing this remarkable innovator playing his own music is a seductive prospect….it's a band that reveals how much the keyboardist and his partners are both inside and on the edge of the jazz tradition.”-The Guardian

This will be the first time we have had the pleasure of presenting innovative jazz pianist and composer Craig Taborn as a leader of his own band, although he has appeared here previously as a sideman several times backing talents such as James Carter, Chris Potter, David Torn and Tim Berne. Taborn has quietly amassed a reputation over the years as a player’s player on the NYC scene and he received major attention with last year’s release Avenging Angel for ECM Records that featured his austerely beautiful improvisational solo pieces. ECM will also issue a new CD, Chants, on April 23 featuring this trio with bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Gerald Cleaver prior to our concert where they will stretch out on Taborn’s highly original compositions that are informed by his wide ranging interests in jazz’s trajectory from players like Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett and beyond as well as electronica and classical music’s vanguard. Expect the unexpected when the Craig Taborn Trio take our stage.
