"Creates a world both mysterious and inviting."—PopMatters on On Fillmore’s Extended Vacation

On Fillmore is the duo project of percussionist Glenn Kotche, best known as Wilco’s drummer, and Darin Gray, an equally adventurous bassist who often collaborates with Jim O'Rourke. Their most recent release, Extended Vacation, beautifully balances experimental instrumental impulses with echoes of Martin Denny–styled exotica and skillfully shaded atmospheres that ripple and resonate.

Rachel Grimes, of Rachel’s, the Louisville chamber rock ensemble (which, some may be surprised to know, is not actually named for her), opens the concert with a set of meditative piano compositions from Book of Leaves, her widely acclaimed recent solo debut. Time Out Chicago praised the album enthusiastically: “The gorgeous tones and deep swells of her grand piano radiate. The result is so intimate you feel as if you are alone with her in a room—or in a field when she injects the somber drama of her compositions with field recordings of birds and insects.”

Our intimate black box theater, with its crystal clear acoustics, offers a perfect setting for this special double bill. All leading exponents of the current crossovers between the indie scene and evolving neoclassical trends, these stellar musicians will complement each other exquisitely.
