“It sounds great. Everything about Album…adds up to something elusive and fascinating—maybe even heartbreaking.”—Pitchfork

Much is made in the music press about how Christopher Owens grew up in the Children of God cult before escaping to Amarillo, Texas, to be reborn as a punk rocker. What really matters is the music he currently makes with musical partner Chet “JR” White in their San Francisco–based band Girls. Included in many best-of-the-year lists for 2009, their debut disc, Album, is a classic California record that celebrates the glories of youth with nods to Brian Wilson, surf music, and 1960s' sunshine pop psychedelia. Those influences are tempered by Owens’s ecstatic Cali version of shoegaze and evocatively melancholy lyrics. With blissful pop that falls somewhere between the Ramones and Ronettes, the hotly tipped Dum Dum Girls open, so don’t be late.

Please note: Parking in the Ohio Union Garages on the evening of April 6 will be cash-in-advance at special event rates ($5 per vehicle). Parking will also be available in the Arps Garage just north of the Wexner Center and at South Campus Gateway.
