Featuring Lawrence Fields, Linda Oh, and Joey Baron

“Their rapport seemed all but inexhaustible…. Sound Prints held fast to a swirling extroversion, nearly outlandish in its play between slangy ease and contested control…. Their chemistry was a thing unto itself.”—New York Times

Deep-toned saxophonist Joe Lovano, adventurous trumpeter Dave Douglas, and the rest of their fantastic quintet get this season's cabaret concerts in Columbus's best room for jazz off to an especially strong start. Both Lovano and Douglas are superlative composers with a longstanding admiration for each other’s talents. They are also not shy about sparring with each other in the front line of this band inspired by the music of jazz master Wayne Shorter (its name is their nod to Shorter’s “Footprints”).

Shorter’s brilliant approach to jazz composition and performance (encapsulated in his often-quoted comment, “I can’t rehearse the unexpected”), provides a point of departure for Lovano and Douglas’s original pieces for the band, which are also augmented by their brand new collaborations with Shorter. The all-star ensemble includes up-and-coming pianist Lawrence Fields, bassist Linda Oh, and drummer Joey Baron. Be sure to get your tickets early for this special night of jazz fireworks in our intimate Performance Space. You won’t want to miss out when Lovano, Douglas, and company take the stage.
