"Excellent...an eye for detail."—De Morgan

Bringing together trained dancers and street performers of all ages, vanguard European dance theater company Les Ballets C. de la B. create sweeping vistas of rough-and-tumble everyday life in contemporary Europe. Les Ballets C. de la B. capture a milieu where the young, immigrants, and the underclass struggle to find a place amid ever accelerating cultural shifts. Their work has struck a responsive chord with audiences around the world. Metaphoric power runs throughout the vivid, emotion-packed performances of this vanguard dance theater ensemble from Ghent, Belgium.

Les Ballets C. de la B. made their U.S. debut at the Wexner Center in 1996 with the haunting La Tristeza Complice, which featured, among much else, a captivating score (by 17th-century composer Henry Purcell) performed live by 10 accordionists. That remarkable presentation is still one of the most talked about dance events in our history.

Now Les Ballets C. de la B. return for the only American performance of their next work, Foi, soon after its premiere in Ghent. The project was spearheaded by Belgian/Moroccan dancer and choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui in collaboration with Dirk Snellings and the musicians of Capilla Flamenca, who perform ancient village songs and medieval scores for this piece. Foi explores the timeless, sustaining roles of faith and myth--and the clash and fusion of the old and the contemporary.

The unparalleled performers of this wildly eclectic company are sure to deliver another evening to remember for years to come. Foi is coproduced by Schaubuhne am Lehniner Platz Berlin, Theatre de la Ville Paris, Monaco Dance Forum, Holland Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht and Springdance/works, Utrecht, Vooruit Arts Centre Gent, Stedelijke Concertzaal De Bijloke Gent, South Bank Centre London, Tanzquartier Wien, PACT Zollverein, and Essen/Choreographisches Zentrum NRW.
