Peter Walker and Jack Rose

"His 2006 playing is a marvel...we're lucky to have Walker with us again."--Pitchfork Tonight's double bill presents two generations of solo acoustic guitar genius. A legendary player from the freewheeling 1960s' acoustic scene and musical director for Timothy Leary's Psychedelic Celebrations, Peter Walker is best-known for his flamenco- and raga-influenced releases for folk-forward label Vanguard. This October, Tompkins Square Records released Raga for Peter Walker, which features four new tracks from the artist--his first recordings in 37 years--alongside original compositions by fans Jack Rose, James Blackshaw, and Thurston Moore. (Follow the link below to a Pitchfork review of this album.)

A member since 1995 of the band Pelt, one of the key groups of the "New Weird America" scene, guitarist Jack Rose also pursues the solo guitar path. His strongly expressive and sweeping sound draws from John Fahey, roots influences Charley Patton, Skip James, and Blind Blake, and early minimalist pioneers La Monte Young and Terry Riley. Check out Rose's Raag Manifestos and Kensington Blues for a forecast of tonight's performance.
