"With his very first record...Tord Gustavsen has created an instant classic."--Stereophile Scandinavia, in particular Norway, has recently become the center of a jazz renaissance, nurturing ensembles that forge hybrids with electronica or seek novel approaches to the time-honored instrumental lineup.

With his 2003 debut recording, Changing Places for ECM Records, Norwegian jazz pianist Tord Gustavsen has captivated audiences with an individualistic approach that avoids shallow displays of pyrotechnics for a deeper sensitivity to melody and tonal dynamics. His original music seems almost liquid, displaying a sensuality of touch and understated appeal that have garnered widespread critical raves. Where Y'At?'s enthusiastic review of Changing Places is typical. Lauding its "subtle works of quiet beauty played with sublime grace," the magazine called it "a truly perfect album."

Joining Gustavsen is versatile bassist Harald Johnsen and drummer Jarle Vespestad, who also performs with acclaimed Norwegian electro-improv band Supersilent.
