Documentary filmmakers Chris Hegedus and Nick Doob come to the Wexner Center to introduce and take part in a Q & A following the area premiere of Al Franken: God Spoke on Tuesday, October 24 at 7 pm. Executive produced by D.A. Pennebaker and directed by Hegedus and Doob (the team behind The War Room), the documentary is predominantly set during the tumultuous 2004 presidential campaign and offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Emmy-award winning political satirist, author, and radio host Al Franken.

Tickets are $10 for the general public and $8 for Wexner Center members and students.

Tickets can be purchased at the Wexner Center ticket office (614 292-3535) or Ticketmaster (614 431-3600) or Ticketmaster.com.

This area premiere (it opens in New York September 13), and the filmmakers’ visit to discuss the film, is the latest example of the Wexner Center’s longtime commitment to hosting filmmakers, acclaimed new films, and regional premieres.

MORE ABOUT THE FILM

In 2004, Al Franken took to the road to inaugurate his new radio program on liberal radio upstart Air America, and to stump for the Democrats during the most contentious election in American history. Shot over the course of two years, Al Franken: God Spoke (90 mins.) is not only a hilarious exploration of this journey, but a personal look at Franken’s life as this former Saturday Night Live writer moves from the political sidelines to the political forefront while considering a run for a Senate seat. With unprecedented access to Franken’s life, family, and work, Hegedus and Doob were privy not only to his highly publicized feuds with pundits Bill O’Reilly and Ann Coulter, and his campaign against President Bush, but to more intimate, quiet moments shared between Franken and his family. It’s all documented in this critically acclaimed cinéma vérité look at one man’s political quest. Premiere Magazine called it “an outspoken and...funny portrait.” For more information: www.phfilms.com
