Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet Perform Their First Collaboration, Landfall, at the Wex
Composer, musician, and performance art pioneer Laurie Anderson and new music standard bearers Kronos Quartet unite at the Wex for one night only, Saturday, October 11 at 8 pm for Landfall, an original work composed by Anderson for Kronos—and one that is a highlight of the center’s 25th Anniversary Season, as well as a prime example of how the center’s earliest objectives and founding promise as a unique multidisciplinary arts center have been realized since its launch in 1989. It was then, at the center’s November 1989 dedication event that Anderson and Kronos first met backstage and Kronos’s David Harrington first suggested to Anderson that they should collaborate in the future. In Landfall, the Wex audience will witness how, 25 years later, that spark caught fire.

“Linklater [is] … an exemplar of American independent cinema.”—New York Times

The series picks up where a previous Wexner Center retrospective left off in 2000, by following his career from that point to the present, and will be kicked off on Monday, July 21, when Linklater visits the Wex to introduce the Ohio premiere of Boyhood and discuss his career in film.
Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Diverse Range of Exhibitions, Collaborations, Films, and Performances
Season includes exhibition of modern masters from Wexner Family Collection, new work by Catherine Opie, a collaboration by Ann Hamilton and Anne Bogart, film retrospective of work by Richard Linklater, and more
This fall, the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a season of exhibitions, collaborations, performances, and film/video screenings that explore the diversity and ingenuity of modern and contemporary artistic practice. Reflecting the institution’s history as a leader in supporting and presenting ambitious creative production, the season includes a major creative partnership between artist Ann Hamilton and theater director Anne Bogart made possible by a Wexner Center Residency Award; a new performance by previous Wexner Center Artist Residency Award recipient Miranda July; and an exhibition that debuts a new series by photographer Catherine Opie, an Ohio native who created new work for the center’s acclaimed Hard Targets exhibition in 2010. Beginning with Transfigurations: Modern Masters from the Wexner Family Collection, an unprecedented exhibition of the rarely seen personal collection of the Wexner Center’s major benefactors Leslie and Abigail Wexner, the season firmly situates the center’s varied programming within a creative continuum from the 20th century and into the future, and underlines the enduring influence of the Wexner Center’s support of artistic innovation.
