Annual Screening Includes Seldom-Seen Footage of Baseball Greats

For the sixth year, the Wexner Center presents Rare Films from the Baseball Hall of Fame to commemorate the beginning of a new baseball season. This year’s edition, put together by Wexner film curator Dave Filipi, screens Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11 at 7 PM. Included in this year’s program of rarely seen gems is a 1959 visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame; highlights of the 1954 World Series between Cleveland and New York; a clip of J. Edgar Hoover singing Happy Birthday to Washington owner Clark Griffith; and footage of Roy Campanella, Ty Cobb, Willie Mays, and Babe Ruth. Filipi will introduce the screenings and provide a cultural and historical context for the many clips in the program.

Filipi notes: “It is always a highlight of the spring to present this program.  The films are not only fascinating historical artifacts, but also wonderful reminders of all there is to love about our national pastime.”

Special thanks to Ben Harry of the National Baseball Hall of Fame Library.
