Concert Includes Two Columbus Acts

In an event added today to the Wexner Center’s just-announced fall season, the Wex has booked Numero’s Eccentric Soul Revue for the recently renovated historic Lincoln Theatre, 769 E. Long St., Monday, November 9 at 8 pm.

This classic soul revue show features headliner Syl Johnson (who recorded on the Memphis-based Hi Records alongside legends like Al Green), as well as Chicago- based vocal R&B group The Notations and Chicago recording artist Renaldo Domino, and special guest artists from Columbus The Four Mints and Marion Black—all backed by JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound. Numero Group, based in Chicago, is a reissue label that specializes in unearthing overlooked and obscure soul and R&B records, and its very first reissue was a compilation from the Columbus-based Capsoul label, spearheaded by the late Bill Moss, a colorful Columbus personality; Marion Black was featured on Numero’s initial Capsoul label compilation. Numero has subsequently issued three additional records featuring Columbus-based performers, including a reissue of the outstanding debut release of The Four Mints.

“We’re excited to present this show in the historic Lincoln Theatre, located in the heart of a neighborhood noted for its legendary jazz and soul scene—and thrilled to showcase the strong ties Numero has made with Columbus’s music legacy through his lineup,” says Charles Helm, director of performing arts at Ohio State’s Wexner Center. “The Lincoln Theatre is the perfect venue for this concert, and we hope to contribute to the vitality of its offerings with this event and in the future.”

Tickets to Numero’s Eccentric Soul Revue, an all-ages show, are $23 (includes $1 CAPA restoration fee). Tickets for members and musictoday.com fans go on sale August 4 (member tickets only available at 614 292-3535 or the Wexner Center Ticket Office); public tickets go on sale August 8 through Ticketmaster.com, the Wexner Center (614 292-3535), and CAPA box office (614 469-0939). The Lincoln Theatre, located in the King-Lincoln district on Columbus’s Near East Side, seats 566.
