Artist's Talk Marius Watz

Marius Watz—founder of Generator.x, a blog and series of events about computational aesthetics—is an artist and teacher who uses code to create works concerned with visual complexity and spaces articulated through geometry.

As Watz's ideas make clear, the shift from analog tools to digital software is more significant than a simple translation. The essential nature of software is that of a computational process, capable of rule-based logic and constant transformation of the media that is fed into it. Artists and designers are increasingly looking at computer code as a way to gain greater control over their new tools, but also as a way to create a new form of creative expression. In this talk Watz gives an introduction to generative art and parametric design, using illustrations from his own work and that of leading practitioners.
