Curator's Talk: Denise Markonish

MASS MoCA Curator Denise Markonish talks about her work in this afternoon's talk.

Exhibitions Markonish has organized for MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art), which is located a vast complex of 19th-century factory buildings in North Adams, MA, include Sanford Biggers: The Cartographer's Conundrum; Stephen Vitiello: All Those Vanished Engines; Nari Ward: Sub Mirage Lignum (catalogue); Petah Coyne: Everything That Rises Must Converge (catalogue: Yale University Press); Inigo Manglano-Ovalle: Gravity is a force to be reckoned with (catalogue: D.A.P); and Badlands: New Horizons in Landscape (catalogue: MIT Press). She also coedited, with Susan Cross, the book Sol LeWitt: 100 Views (Yale University Press).

Before joining the staff at MASS MoCA, Markonish was the curator at Artspace in New Haven, CT. She also organized the exhibition Mark Dion: New England Digs for the Fuller Museum, in Brockton, MA. In addition to her curatorial work, Markonish has taught at University of New Haven, Stonehill College, and the Rhode Island School of Design. She is currently working on Oh, Canada, a survey of contemporary Canadian art, which will open at Mass MoCA this May.
