Hussein Chalayan, one of today's brightest fashion stars, discusses his work, including the selection of garments featured in Mood River. Chalayan is the recipient of the 2001-02 Wexner Center Residency Award in visual arts. Cypriot-born fashion designer Hussein Chalayan blurs the boundaries between fashion, art, architecture, and performance. Named the Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 1999 and 2000, Chalayan has received critical acclaim for the exquisite craftsmanship and dramatic presentation of his unique garments, which include skirts that become coffee tables and tailored dresses that fold into chair covers. His daring, unconventional style has evolved into collections of dresses, skirts, and jackets that are both highly inventive and eminently wearable.
