Project Fashion Show (for grades 6–8) with Nancy Kangas

Workshop Is Full

Instructor Nancy Kangas and this class were such big hits last year that we had to bring them back. The workshop is perfect for kids who want to make their own fashion statements but are not sure how. We provide the materials, equipment, and expertise they need to express their personal fashion sense using recycled garments and materials.

Sewing/stitching will be the focus but knitting, gluing, stapling, riveting, and (gulp) wiring are not out of the question! Come for a final fashion show for guests on Friday.

Nancy Kangas is a teaching artist who works with writing, fashion, and sustainable agriculture. Her humor writing regularly appears in Muse (a magazine in the Cricket family), and her poetry has been featured in print and online publications, as well performed around the state. Her interest in fashion is driven by a commitment to thrift, practicality, and playfulness. “I’m challenged by limits. The right set of ‘rules’—whether it’s a particular poetic form or that you can only spend so much money on fabric—can launch really satisfying art-making.”

Registration fees are just $95 per student, per workshop for the general public. Wexner Center members save: members' registration is just $75 per student, per workshop.

Locations and Equipment
All classes will be held on the top floor of Sullivant Hall OR at the Chadwick Arboretum on the Ohio State campus. Students will receive confirmation information and directions to the drop-off point for each workshop via e-mail.

In our computer classes students will work on a Macintosh laptop. Children are welcome to bring digital cameras from home for photography-related classes; but please remember to include the cord, battery-charging system, and an empty memory chip. If you don’t have a digital camera, just let us know and we will provide one.

Changes and Cancellations
Dates and times are subject to change. The Wexner Center reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment without incurring obligations. If a class is canceled, you may transfer to another class or request a full tuition refund. If you withdraw from a summer workshop up to seven days before the event, you will receive a full refund less a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given after that time.

Friday Celebrations
Each Summer Kids workshop culminates in a final celebration during the last half-hour of class. Parents, guardians, friends, and family are invited to join the class at this time to see what the young artists have done.
