Sanford Biggers The Global Language and Currency of Hip-Hop

wex grid image fill

In this illustrated artist's talk, Sanford Biggers speaks about hip-hop's global currency and how it operates in his own work as an increasingly pervasive language of symbols and references. Biggers is a New York–based artist who concerns himself with global cultures, including the urban street culture closest to home. His installations are inspired by his encounters with Buddhism, as well as by new technologies and the process art of the 1970s. His work with common materials encourages a fresh look at everyday experience and an understanding of how all people and cultures are connected.

The Ohio State University at Marion is showcasing Malleable, an exhibition curated by Biggers, February 1-24. The exhibition features the art of Leslie Hewitt, Kelly Kaczynski, Clifford Owens, and Chris Sollars.

Presented by Ohio State's Department of Art. Cosponsored by the Wexner Center.
