In this fast-paced workshop with video artists Sadie Benning and Liv Gjestvang, you'll brainstorm, shoot, and edit a short video that will be ready to screen at the evening video slam. Using no-budget to low-budget techniques, we'll experiment with do-it-yourself aesthetics and practice a full range of preproduction, production, and postproduction skills.

Advanced registration is required. For more information or to register, please call 614 247-6835 or send an e-mail to agregory@wexarts.org. Sadie Benning began making videos at age 16 when she received a Fisher-Price Pixelvision camcorder for Christmas. Today she is one of the country's most respected and influential video artists. Based in Chicago, she is also a visual artist and musician (she was a founding member of the band Le Tigre). Her films concern themselves with the perspective of young people and women while condemning homophobia, racism, and sexism. Benning was the recipient of the Wexner Center Residency Award in media arts for 2003-04.

Liv Gjestvang is a Columbus-based video artist who has screened her work at the Women in the Director's Chair Festival and the Smart Museum in Chicago. She believes strongly in supporting young media-makers and has facilitated video workshops at the Wexner Center and across the country. Her interest in the power of community media has led to collective projects with the Ohio AIDS Coalition, Camp Sunrise, and Team New York Aquatics.
