Retrospective: Terry Zwigoff

Terry Zwigoff was inspired to take up filmmaking to tell the story of the obscure blues musician Howard Armstrong. The resulting film, Louie Bluie, hinted at Zwigoff’s penchant for the esoteric and a fascination with characters—both real and fictitious—that live and work on the fringes of the mainstream. We’re thrilled to present this full retrospective as part of our 25th Anniversary Season and to host the filmmaker on October 16 for a conversation about his career, which also includes a documentary on Robert Crumb, two collaborations with cartoonist Daniel Clowes, and Bad Santa, one of the most unlikely holiday films ever made.
