Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum Grand Opening Festival of Cartoon Art

The Wexner Center is helping our neighbor, Ohio State’s Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, celebrate its move to a wonderful new, expanded facility in Sullivant Hall. The weekend festival includes an academic conference, programs with cartoonists including Jeff Smith, Paul Pope, Jaime & Gilbert Hernandez, Stephan Pastis, and Kazu Kibuishi, tours of their new spaces, and more! Many of the events will take place at the Wexner Center. Please visit cartoons.osu.edu/FCA/2013 for more detailed information on the festival.

Join us for a conversation between internationally acclaimed cartoonists and Ohio State University alumni Jeff Smith (Bone, RASL) and Paul Pope (THB, Heavy Liquid, Batman Year 100) as they discuss their extraordinary careers and reflect on the importance of comics history. Jeff Smith’s collected, full-color RASL debuted this fall, and he is currently working on a new webcomic series Tuki: Save the Humans. Paul Pope’s latest sci-fi graphic novel Battling Boy also recently hit shelves. In 2008 Smith was the subject of a Wexner Center exhibition, Jeff Smith: Bone and Beyond, and a companion exhibition at the Cartoon Library, Jeff Smith: Before Bone. Moderated by the Wexner Center’s Director of Film/Video David Filipi.

Cosponsored by the Wexner Center for the Arts.
