Rotterdam: Day 2

January 23

I've attended the Rotterdam Film Festival a number of times in the past but have never visited the Nederlands Filmmuseum in Amsterdam. Friday afternoon was devoted to the trek to Amsterdam where Elif Rongen-Kaynakci in the Film Collections Department was gracious enough to give me a tour of their facilities.

The museum is located in Amsterdam's famous Vondelpark and actually occupies two adjacent buildings (not counting the buildings on the outskirts of the city that house the museum's nitrate and other film holdings). This building is the main public building housing two beautiful theaters, the café Vertigo, and a bookshop.

The second building holds a number of administrative offices as well as the library that is completely open to the public.

You may remember a couple of years ago when we presented the series The Human Dutch. The prints came from the Filmmuseum (in conjunction with UCLA). Elif told me about current and upcoming projects and hopefully we will be able to present a number of films and even series with the cooperation of the museum in the not-too-distant future.
