8 Bit
Introduced by the filmmakers!
Marcin Ramocki, codirected by Justin Strawhand, 2006
Wed, Jan 17, 2007 7 PM
A visually and sonically dynamic mix of rockumentary, art expose, and critical exploration, 8 Bit is the definitive documentary about video games and their intersection with the art world and culture at large.
Marcin Ramocki, director of 8 Bit, and Justin Strawhand, producer and codirector, introduce the screening and hold a Q & A afterward. Artists who grew up playing games on primitive Atari 2600 consoles and Commodore 64 computers are now repurposing those technologies to open up fresh, uncharted territories in art, film, music, and gaming. Among the many interviewees are Game Boy musician Bubblyfish, visual artist Cory Arcangel, and new media critic Ed Halter. (90 mins., video)
