“We could almost be in the Los Angeles of Colors or Boyz N the Hood, the Baltimore of The Wire, or the Rio de Janeiro of City of God.”—New York Times

Nominated for the 2010 Oscar for best foreign language film, Ajami is an unsparing crime story set on the streets of Jaffa’s Ajami neighborhood—a melting pot that reflects the broader conflicts in Israel between Muslims, Jews, and Christians. The film features the intersecting lives of a handful of characters—a Palestinian refugee working to pay for an operation, a young Israeli fighting a criminal vendetta against his family, and an affluent Palestinian dreaming of a future with his Jewish girlfriend—and builds to a dramatic explosion, the result of enemies living as neighbors. (120 mins., 35mm)
