These later films by Barnet show his stylistic experiments in Alenka and ability to blend comedy and propaganda in Bountiful Summer. Second feature start time: 8:40 pm. One of Barnet's last films, Alenka is stylistically embellished with narrative experimentation and animation. It's an intriguing chronicle of a group migrating across the Russian steppe to settle in Kazakhstan. (1961, 88 mins.) Part propaganda and part comedy, Bountiful Summer depicts a postwar utopian commune in the Ukraine, replete with rolling wheat fields and cheerful peasant protagonists who periodically break into song and dance. (1951, 86 mins.)
