"The greatest filmmaker of his generation."—Stan Brakhage on Phil Solomon

Legendary experimental filmmaker Stan Brakhage (1933–2003) was one of Phil Solomon’s greatest inspirations, mentors, and friends. They even collaborated on several remarkable films, two of which we'll be screening tonight, along with never-before-seen footage of Brakhage at work and play specially prepared for tonight’s screening from Solomon’s personal archive. We’ll also show a number of Solomon’s most Brakhage-influenced films, including the lyrical The Secret Garden (1988), made primarily from a lush reworking of footage from The Wizard of Oz. (approx 75 mins., 16mm & video)

The following films will be included in the program:
Nocturne (1980/89) 10 mins.
The Secret Garden (1988) 23 mins.
Concrescence (codirected with Stan Brakhage, 1996) 3 mins.
Clepsydra (1992) 14 mins.
Seasons... (codirected with Stan Brakhage, 2002) 18 mins.
Plus rare footage of Stan Brakhage assembled by Phil Solomon
