NEW 35MM RESTORATION

(Shirley Clarke, 1962)

Fascinating, vital, and a defining film of the Beat era, The Connection was banned by censors and panned by critics (the New York Times called it “sordid and disagreeable” on its initial release). Shirley Clarke’s provocative film spends time with a group of heroin addicts, including a jazz quartet, as they wait for their dealer in a grungy New York apartment. (110 mins., 35mm)

Milestone cofounder Dennis Doros introduces The Connection and discusses “Project Shirley” before the screening.

Can’t make this screening? Come to a double feature of Ornette: Made in America and The Connection on Saturday, September 29 at 2 PM.
