Called “France’s answer to the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon” by Variety, the erotic thriller Double Lover follows a vulnerable young woman (Marine Vacth) who turns to a psychiatrist (Jérémie Renier) after convincing herself the physical pain she’s experiencing is psychosomatic. Sexual chemistry quickly sparks between the model and her hunky therapist, bringing an end to her treatment but leading to an affair and cohabitation. Her happiness is shattered, however, when mounting clues suggest her lover is not who he seems. At the risk of spoiling the twist, Double Lover is inspired by Joyce Carol Oates’s 1987 pseudonymous novel Lives of the Twins. (108 mins., DCP)

Recommended for mature audiences.
