Loosely based on Camus's The Stranger, Fate is the first in Demirkubuz's planned trilogy titled Tales about Darkness.

Fate transposes Camus's narrative to present-day Istanbul, where customs office clerk Musa lives with his aged mother and, after her death, drifts in and out of situations with little concern for the future.

As Variety notes, the film's unique vision is "pitched halfway between a drama and a black comedy." (120 mins.)

Tonight's screening is introduced by Savas Arslan, a Turkish film scholar and Ph.D. student in Ohio State's Department of History of Art.
