The Golem
Ages 12 and up
Live music by David Krakauer and the Carpe Diem String Quartet Paul Wegener & Carl Boese, 1920, Germany
Sat, Dec 6, 2008 7:30 PM
Widely recognized as the source of the Frankenstein myth, the ancient Hebrew tale of the Golem sees a rabbi create a giant warrior sculpted of clay and intended to protect his people.

This silent version of the tale is one of the earliest and most influential horror films, and it remains spooky and thrilling over 80 years after it was made. The Golem is hauntingly played by the film's codirector, Paul Wegener, as seemingly indestructible and capable of both great heroism, and (if guided by the wrong people), extreme violence and destruction.

Accompanying the film for this remarkable one-time-only screening are the internationally acclaimed klezmer clarinet virtuoso David Krakauer and the innovative Carpe Diem String Quartet, performing an original score written by Israeli composer Betty Olivero. (91 mins., video)

Tickets for The Golem are specially priced and not part of the Zoom: Family Film Festival package discounts.
