Two documentary portraits of gay rights pioneers.
In Hand on the Pulse, filmmaker Joyce Warshow uses interviews, photos, and archival footage to tell the poignant story of Joan Nestle, political and sexual "bad girl" and cofounder of the Lesbian Herstory Archives, an invaluable repository of lesbian history and culture. (2002; 52 mins.)
Eric Slade's Hope along the Wind chronicles the fascinating story of radical activist Harry Hay, who in 1950 founded the Mattachine Society, one of the first organized gay rights movements in America. Hay died at age 90 last October, disillusioned by the failure of subsequent American activists to adhere to his socialist convictions. (2001; 57 mins.)
One tickets admits you to both films of this double feature screening.
