Patrice Chereau, 2001

"It isn't the sex that shocks here, it's the chilling core of loneliness. Intimacy dares to cut deep."--Rolling Stone

Note: No one 17 or under admitted.

Based on stories by Hanif Kureishi (My Beautiful Launderette), Intimacy is an unflinching portrait of a recently divorced bartender and a married amateur actress who meet every Wednesday afternoon for desperate bouts of sex.

Like Last Tango in Paris, it's both an emotional and a physical roller-coaster ride for the characters no less than the actors themselves. Starring Mark Rylance, better known as artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, and New Zealand actress Kerry Fox, who has starred in films by Jane Campion and Gillian Armstrong. (119 mins.)
