Kill, Baby...Kill

(Operazione paura, Mario Bava, 1966)

Kill, Baby...Kill film still with a man and women featured in saturated color

Italian filmmaker Mario Bava is known for his aggressively cinematic gothic horror films, and Kill, Baby...Kill is considered by many to be one of his best. This atmospheric, newly remastered occult murder mystery takes place in a Transylvania plagued by an evil curse. The local sorceress (Fabienne Dali) must find and destroy the vengeful Baroness Graps (Giovanna Galletti), who seeks to claim the villagers’ souls in retribution for the death of her daughter (whose ghost is one of cinema’s most memorable creepy kids). No less of an Italian luminary than Luchino Visconti is reputed to have led a standing ovation at the film’s premiere, and the movie’s influences can be seen in the work of such filmmakers as David Lynch and Guillermo del Toro, among others. (83 mins., DCP)
