With his masterpiece Shoah (1985), Claude Lanzmann changed the way we discuss and represent the Holocaust. He returns to the topic three decades later with this film that focuses on Benjamin Murmelstein, the last Jewish elder in Theresienstadt and a figure despised by many of the surviving inhabitants of that concentration camp. Lanzmann shot interviews with Murmelstein for Shoah, but has only now crafted them into a film, with an added dimension of history and time passing.
