Magnolia

Paul Thomas Anderson, 1999

wex grid image fill

Director Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights) and singer-songwriter Aimee Mann share a feel for Los Angeles and its environs and quirky characters—as you'll see in Magnolia.

Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore, and Tom Cruise, Magnolia takes place during one seemingly uneventful day in the San Fernando Valley and follows the randomly intersecting lives of a handful of characters as they all reach crisis points in their lives. Most of the songs in the film were written and performed by Mann, who received an Oscar nomination for "Save Me." (188 mins., 35mm)
