In this program we'll screen selected works from two Austrian filmmakers whose work is sure to astonish and delight film lovers. Both filmmakers work almost entirely with footage from Hollywood films, allowing them to take apart small moments that get lost in the rush of narrative filmmaking or to examine the properties of the filmstrip itself. Included in tonight's program are Martin Arnold's Alone. Life Wastes Andy Hardy (1998) and Peter Tscherkassky's Outer Space (1999), two of the most discussed and influential films of the 1990s, as well as Tscherkassky's latest, Instructions for a Light and Sound Machine (2005), which masterfully reworks footage from Sergio Leone's The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
