Many have seen Fritz Lang's visionary Metropolis since its Berlin premiere in 1927 (including George Lucas, who acknowledges its central influence on Star Wars), but it's only with this new digital restoration that viewers can come close to seeing the film as it was first released.
Reconstructed from the original camera negative and archival nitrate prints, the restoration includes important segments that had previously been changed or omitted, newly translated subtitles and intertitles, and a new recording of the original symphonic score. It's a stunning tribute for the 75th anniversary of one of the most influential films ever produced. (1927/2002; 124 mins.)
