(Elaine May, 1971)
(Mike Nichols, 1975)

a man and a woman looking off to the side

Our double-feature tribute to the comedy team of Nichols and May begins with Elaine May’s black comedy A New Leaf. Walter Matthau stars as a playboy who’s squandered his fortune but aims to marry back into money through a shy botanist and heiress, played by May. (102 mins., 35mm)

Mike Nichols’s The Fortune stars Warren Beatty and Jack Nicholson as inept 1920s con artists who see an easy mark when an heiress (Stockard Channing, in her first starring film role) enters their lives. (88 mins., 35mm)
