Playing In the Company of Men is Desplechin's audacious adaptation of English playwright Edward Bond's In the Company of Men, a brutal drama about business ethics and boardroom power games. Desplechin's deconstructed version of Edward Bond's In the Company of Men alternates filmed scenes of the play in realistic settings and theater-based video sequences depicting the actors in rehearsal (evoking Louis Malle's Vanya on 42nd Street). Noted Desplechin: "This is a play by the most Shakespearean of contemporary British playwrights... There is no guilty party, just a few powerful men working in the shadows, who make the world a jungle."
