"Stunningly well-made entertainment."--Pauline Kael A little-seen classic of postwar film noir, Henri-Georges Clouzot's Quai des OrfÀvres is back in a newly subtitled and restored version.
A whodunit set within the seedy milieu of Parisian music halls, the film follows a coquettish chanteuse, her insanely jealous pianist husband, and the stylish lesbian photographer who loves her. The murder of a lecherous admirer puts them under mutual suspicion and leads them all to the Quai des Orfevres the French equivalent of Scotland Yard.
Directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot (Wages of Fear, Diabolique) and with Louis Jouvet, Suzy Delair, and Bernard Blier. (102 mins.)
