The Wexner Center has presented films by the Quay brothers for years. We're honored to welcome them on this long-anticipated visit to Columbus.

Through the Weeping Glass: On the Consolations of Life Everslasting (Limbos & Afterbreezes in the Mütter Museum) is a hybrid documentary inspired by the unique collection of books, instruments, and medical oddities at Philadelphia’s Mütter Museum. This mini-masterpiece represents an ideal marriage of the Quay Brothers’ unique, often darkly grotesque, cinematic vision and the museum’s vast collection of medical anomalies. Through the Weeping Glass is the first film by the Quay Brothers to be made in the United States. Narrated by Derek Jacobi, with music by Tim Nelson. (31 mins., 35mm)

Based on a novel by Stanislaw Lem, the author of Solaris, the atmospheric Maska chronicles the self-realization of a robot that is horrified when it discovers the purpose for which it was created. (24 mins., 35mm)

A conversation with the Quay Brothers and Wexner Center Director of Film/Video Dave Filipi follows the films. (Event app. 120 mins.)

Special thanks to Edward Waisnis from Pro Bono Films and Ron Maggliozzi of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Through the Weeping Glass commissioned by the Mütter Museum of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Supported by the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Philadelphia Exhibitions Initiative.
