Restored to its full Technicolor glory, Jean Renoir's The River is one of the most beautiful color films ever made. One of the most beautiful color films ever made, Jean Renoir's The River features cinematography by Renoir's nephew Claude. Its gorgeous palette and fluid visual style point to the heritage of the director and cinematographer as the son and grandson of Impressionist painter Pierre Auguste Renoir.

Adapted from the Rumer Godden novel about an English family living in Bengal along the Ganges River, the film stars Patricia Walters, Nora Swinburne, and Arthur Shields. This restoration premiered at this year's Cannes film festival and had its U.S. premiere at Lincoln Center in August. (99 mins.)
