See the Midwest premiere of Hong Sang-soo's stunningly accomplished most recent film, which examines the bold connection between cinemagoing and psychology. Hong Sang-soo is unable to attend tonight's screening due to a minor but incapacitating injury that has canceled his travel to the U.S. and Canada. Chris Stults, organizer of the Wexner Center's Hong retrospective and film/video curatorial assistant, leads the audience in a postscreening discussion of Tale of Cinema and the rest of Hong's works. At once Hong's lightest and most profound film, Tale of Cinema observes Tong-su, a film school graduate who convinces himself that the first movie of a more successful colleague is based on Tong-su's life. When Tong-su notices the lead actress from that movie on the street, the relationships between art and life intertwine. With this fil, Hong opens his work up into exciting new directions and cements his reputation as one of the world’s foremost auteurs. (89 mins.)
