William Kentridge: 7 Films

This rare theatrical screening showcases seven of artist William Kentridge's evocative short animated films. Drawn from several of his larger series, some of the shorts are devoted to Soho Eckstein, a fictional Johannesburg property developer and mine owner, and his romantic alter ego, Felix Teitelbaum--characters the artist uses to provide a poetic commentary on postapartheid South Africa. Rendered in his signature style of adding to and subtracting from his own handdrawn images, the titles are Felix in Exile, History of the Main Complaint, Ubu Tells the Truth, Automatic Writing, Stereoscope, Shadow Procession, and Tide Table.
