This thoughtful and courageous new documentary makes its U.S. theatrical premiere at the Arena Grand in Columbus as part of the Deep Focus Film Festival. The Wexner Center is copresenting the screening, which is introduced by director Elle Flanders, who is based in Toronto.

The film was completed in part with assistance from the Wexner Center's Art & Technology program. It arrives fresh from its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The Columbus Deep Focus Film Festival, which showcases independent films, takes place May 5 to 8 at the Arena Grand. For more information, visit the Deep Focus Film Festival web site. For ticket info, visit the ticket section of the festival web site. In Zero Degrees of Separation, Flanders recounts the experiences of two gay couples of mixed race living in Israel (one partner is Israeli, the other is Palestinian), pairing their stories with home movies of the her grandparents participating in the creation of Jewish settlements there in the late 1940s. She combines these images and opinions with alarming statistics to form a close, critical look at the political and cultural climate spawned by that moment in history. (98 mins.)
