John Jasperse's brainy, precise dance pieces revel in finding moments of wonder in everyday actions, skewed perspectives, and seemingly odd details. Conceptually inventive, his work is meticulously structured and performed with a vitality that reflects the buzz of his radical ideas.
Championed in Europe as one of the most fascinating dancemakers of today, Jasperse is also receiving overdue recognition at home in the U.S., with audiences and critics alike applauding his recent New York season.
His next work, Giant Empty, explores concepts of division: between inside and outside; self and other; intimacy and distance; future, present, and past. This new work is a collaboration with set designer Matthias Bringman, whose flexible constructions will amplify Jasperse's vanguard ideas.

Giant Empty is a coproduction of Ballett Frankfurt and The Brooklyn Academy of Music in collaboration with co-commissioning partners the American Dance Festival and the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art.
