Select season events to take place at Lincoln and Davidson Theatres

This fall, the Wexner Center for the Arts, the multidisciplinary arts laboratory at The Ohio State University, is partnering with CAPA to co-present three events in the center’s 2022–23 Performing Arts season. The diverse selections will bring Wex programming to two of CAPA’s downtown theaters, which rank among the premier venues for live performance in Ohio.

“We’re thrilled to partner with our friends at CAPA for these shows,” says Wex Director of Performing Arts Lane Czaplinski. “To share this work in these venues with CAPA’s support is deeply appreciated and we know audiences will find a lot to embrace in these performances.”

“CAPA is delighted to join forces with the Wexner Center to present these three extraordinary performances,” says CAPA President and CEO Chad Whittington. “Collaboration in the arts is more important than ever and we’re excited to kick off the new season with this partnership.”

The first program, Damon Locks's Black Monument Ensemble, will take place at Lincoln Theatre on September 9 at 8 PM. Hailing from Chicago and featuring a rotating cast of creatives ranging in age from 9 to 52 (including Angel Bat Dawid, who performed at the Wex in 2019), the ensemble weaves together archival speech, electronic beats, dance, and live music featuring vocals, horns, and drums. Each performance is a unique improvisational tapestry, full of jubilant harmonies, deep grooves, and unabashed optimism.

October 21–22 at 8 PM, Davidson Theatre will host Furia by internationally acclaimed Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues. Offering a respite from the pandemic fatigue and social anxiety of our time, Rodrigues digs deep into the innermost zones of the human psyche for this raw yet dazzling work for nine dancers. Setting her sights on topics such as otherness and group dynamics, she crafts a fictional realm in constant change, progressing from the solitary to collective transcendence, from jubilation to conflict.

For the final program from this partnership, Belgian theater ensemble Ontroerend Goed performs Are we not drawn onward to new erA to Davidson Theatre January 25–26, 2023 at 8 PM. The ensemble ingeniously combines physical theater, video, and scenic design into a magical tour de force—a palindrome of a performance that can be seen forwards and backwards, just as some people believe humanity is moving forward while others believe the opposite. As the show travels from Adam and Eve to the apocalypse and back again, it portrays a world forever altered by the quest for progress.

Tickets for each of these events are $20 general admission, $17 for Wexner Center and CAPA members, and $14 for students and seniors. Prices include a $2 facility fee. CAPA and Wex members can purchase tickets now via wexarts.org or capa.com and in person at the Wexner Center and CAPA box offices. Public sale begins Friday, July 29, at 10 AM.

At the request of the artists, all audience members 5 and older must provide proof of vaccination on entry, either in the form of their vaccination card or image of their card, along with their valid state-issued or university ID, or a negative COVID-19 test conducted no earlier than 72 hours prior to show time.
