Mary Lum's work is an exploration of how we experience urban spaces.

She combines fragments of comic books and photographs with paintings to create visual abstractions of spatial memories and remnants. Layering multiple perspectives, the artist creates fictional spaces that allow the influence of memory, experience, and expectation to enter the process of interpretation.

Lum has been awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts, and the New York State Council on the Arts. She is currently a professor of painting and drawing at Bennington College in Vermont.

Cosponsored by Ohio State's Art Department, and made possible through the generosity of the Dilenschneider Fund.
