A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Ernesto Neto describes himself as a "carioca artist-sculptor." Heíll talk about his work in this presentation. Presented by Ohio Stateís Knowlton School of Architecture. Cosponsored by the Wexner Center. He draws inspiration from Rio, a city "compressed by the mountains and the sea, overpopulated as any big city in South America, with a giant social and cultural contrast." His expansive gallery installations—including Sister Naves, shown at the Wexner Center in 2000—invite viewers to explore internal and external spaces, the nature of architecture and human behavior, and the possibilities of encountering art physically and through the senses.
