Island President highlights the story of Mohamed Nasheed, the first democratically elected president of the Maldives (a nation of 1,200 tiny islands in the Indian Ocean) and a charismatic activist on the issues surrounding climate change, which offers especially grave challenges to his country. As one of the most low-lying countries in the world, a rise of three feet in sea level would submerge the islands of the Maldives enough to make them uninhabitable. This film tells the story of his first year in office. (101 mins.)

Recommended for grades 7 and up.
