Italian architect Lorenzo Pignatti, who specializes in projects related to the design and rehabilitation of public urban spaces, discusses his work and ideas in one of the Knowlton School of Architecture's spring quarter lectures.

The talk by Lorenzo Pignatti replaces one by Stefano Boeri previously scheduled for this date. Pignatti is principal, with Federica Ottone, in Ottone Pignatti Studio Associato in Rome. The firm's work is mostly related to the design of public spaces and to the rehabilitation of urban sites. Recently they received a first prize for the design of Piazza San Cosimato in Rome (construction to begin in June 2004) and won a competition for the central area of Ponte San Giovanni in Perugia. Their work also includes recreational and residential projects in various Italian cities. Pignatti is an associate professor in design at the Facolta di Architettura in Pescara (Italy) and associate director at the School of Architecture of the University of Waterloo (Canada). He has been involved in various academic exchanges and research projects with the two universities and is also director of the Rome Programme operated by the University of Waterloo annually in Italy. His numerous publications include a monographic issue of the Italian magazine Piano Progetto Citta dedicated to Canada.
