Over the last 10 years the Wexner Center, College of Medicine, and other groups on campus have partnered to explore how the practices of the arts and medicine can illuminate each other—from the Narrative Medicine film and comics series in 2013 to the Wex’s current Art on the Brain program and its offshoots.

This year the Wex is proud to host and cosponsor Medical Humanities: From Campus to Communities, an interdisciplinary conference designed to foster conversations about our diverse goals in promoting the medical humanities and their potential consequences for existing cultures of medicine. Everyone is invited to register and explore these timely subjects in two kinds of sessions:

Tod Chambers, a professor of medical education at Northwestern University, speaks on “Thirteen Ways of Looking at the Medical Humanities” (April 13, 10:45 AM–noon). Brooke Holmes, a professor of the humanities and classics at Princeton University, discusses “Looking Back, Looking Forward: What is the Time of Bioethics?” (April 14, 9–10:15 AM).

Join us for five sessions centered on critical spaces where illness, health, and healing intersect: the page, the screen, the bedside, the classroom, and the community. In each, speakers will give short talks designed to provoke discussion with their fellow panelists and the audience.

Visit the conference web site to register and for details.

Cosponsored by Ohio State’s Humanities and Arts Discovery Themes; Project Narrative; Departments of English, French and Italian, History, and Comparative Studies; Popular Culture Studies program; and Wexner Center for the Arts.
